Cooperation and coordination with other labelling schemes

The national agencies for the Nordic Ecolabel are also responsible for the EU Ecolabel in the Nordic countries. The Nordic Ecolabel is also a member of Global Ecolabelling Network, GEN which is an association of ecolabelling organizations world-wide.

The EU Ecolabel

Just as the Nordic countries have joined together to produce an official ecolabelling system, the EU has agreed on a common European ecolabel. Manufacturers must use samples and documentation to prove that their products meet the criteria with regard to the environment, health and performance.
These requirements have been set by national organisations within the EU's member countries, under the supervision of the European Commission.
