The product group covers both year-round compost bins (group A) and bins which can only operate during the warmer part of the year (group B).

Nordic Swan Ecolabelled compost bins for organic household and garden waste meet high requirements for function, materials and use. The function of the container has been tested in a laboratory under conditions corresponding to daily use, which guarantees the function. 

Below you will find all the necessary documents and background information to apply for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

  • Fees valid from 1 January 2024

    If the extension includes new models tested for functionality, prices are the same as those applicable to amendments to an existing licence, however not less than 1 625 EUR + VAT per model tested for functionality

    Annual licence fee: The annual licence fee for the Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products is based on their turnover in the Nordic countries.

    0.3% of turnover + VAT from 0 – 30 million EUR 
    0.05% of turnover + VAT > 30 million EUR
    Minimum fee for Nordic region 2 167 EUR + VAT per year
    Maximum fee for Nordic region No maximum fee

    Fees for sale outside the Nordic region          
    (Only if revenue > 300 000 EUR per year)

    *) Micro enterprises are charged half the fee. A micro enterprise, according to our definition, is a company with a maximum of 10 employees and with a total turnover of 2 million EUR (including both ecolabelled and non-ecolabelled products).

    **) Corporations pay only one licence fee

    ***) There is an extra fee of 1 083 EUR per day if the inspection takes more than one day.

    The recipient is liable for the VAT according to article 56 of the Council Directive 2006/112/EC.

    3.2 ⇛ 3.3: Prolongation of the criteria

    The validity of the criteria has been prolonged with 24 months. The new version is called 3.3 and is valid until 30 June 2025.

    3.1 ⇛ 3.2: Adjustment of requirement and prolongation of the validity of the criteria

    • Requirement O10 has been adjusted regarding titanium dioxide in powder form.

    In addition, the validity of the criteria have been extended by 24 months. The new version is called 3.2 and is valid until 30 June 2023.

    3.0 ⇛ 3.1: Prolongation of the criteria

    The validity of the criteria has been prolonged with 24 months. The name of the new version is 3.1 and is valid until June 30, 2021.

    3.0: New criteria generation

    Version 3 of Nordic Ecolabelling's criteria for compost bins has been published. The criteria are valid until June 30, 2019.
