Nordic Ecolabelling has developed a tool called RPS to set strong requirements and achieve environmental change. For each criteria group, this tool is used for setting the requirements with the greatest positive environmental impact throughout the life cycle.

The tool has three parameters:

  • environmental Relevance (R)
  • environmental Potential (P)
  • Steerability of the environmental impact (S)

To set a requirement all three of these parameters, R, P and S must be considered and found to be high. The environmental problem must be relevant for the product type, there must be a potential in the market to reduce the problem and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel must be able to contribute to a positive change by verifying a positive environmental change.
